Implement 'Single Use Plastic Ban' in Metro Manila

The Issue

Single-use plastics are still the top contributor to pollution. The clean-up drives given by the government are a great way to adapt nature-friendly habits. But, it doesn't stop people from using single-use plastics. There has been a lot of effort on cleaning the said nature enemy for many years. Despite the efforts being exerted for decades, it still not reduce the amount of plastic waste. The problem is still getting big and getting out of hand.

Earlier this year, with the clean-up drive led by the government, many people were alarmed because of the massive amount of plastic found on the bellies of many dead whales. It might be easy to say that we can clean everything but it is not easy to do it since many establishments still use single-use plastics which is a major threat to our nature.

Some cities and establishments in Metro Manila are practicing the 'Single-use plastic ban'. In example is Quezon City. The government of Quezon City has implement the said plastic ban and big establishments within the city has followed it but some small store owners are not following since plastics such as sando bags and plastic labo are much cheaper than any recyclable materials.

Big establishments such as Coca-Cola, Nestle, Pepsi, and etc. are found to be in the Top 10 major contributors of plastic waste in the Philippines. Hence, this petition aims to awaken establishments and people to ban the use of plastics and find an alternative that is not harmful to the environment.
