Release Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventures onto DVD/Blu Ray

The Issue

Thanks to the success of the first movie starring Alex Winter, George Carlin and Keanu Reeves, an animated series was made and released in the autumn of 1990 on CBS by Hanna-Barbera Productions. It received good reception from many of the movie's fans (who were lucky enough to view it when it aired) due to it never talking down to the audience, staying true to the events and nature of the film, and the most praised feature of the series, was that the protagonists were voiced by the original actors of the film.

Despite all this, it was not to last, as the show switched networks and a lot of the elements as to what made the first season successful were changed, suffice to say that under new management, (which was DIC Entertainment and Fox Kids) it was unbearable to watch for many of the franchise's fans. The animation was stiff, the dialogue and writing seemed to be exclusively on the level of 8 year olds, and it also replaced the original voice actors. Instead, Bill and Ted were voiced by Evan Richards and Christopher Kennedy, who also played the titular characters in the short-lived live action series of the same name. Also, the second season only lasted 8 episodes, in contrast to the first season's 13 episodes, and needless to say, Bill and Ted were cancelled and it was never aired on TV again.

On top of all this the cartoon received very little marketing, so few people know that the show exists, however, it did release some merchandising including a cereal, as well as some kids T-Shirts.

However, only one episode of the Hanna Barbera series was released onto DVD, in the form of the Excellent Collection box set where it was included as one of the special features. You can also see a handful of the episodes which had been uploaded onto Youtube, but many of them are taken from the VHS tapes that the uploaders had from when the show first aired. The episodes are also avaliable to download from torrents.

Also currently, you can find all of the episodes on the free video streaming website Hulu, which may be beneficial for the American fans, but for the fans who live outside of the U.S, it proves a disadvantage as the website has blocked international viewers and the videos can only be viewed in its home country, so I feel the release would benefit international fans enormously.

What I am trying to establish, in conclusion, is that it would be beneficial for the international and the American fans if the complete first series of Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventures (the animated series) was released worldwide or even a U.S only release onto DVD/Blu Ray, preferably onto a special edition boxset. I would understand if the second season has to be released as well, as it is part of the collection.
