Justice for Seo Woo Chang

The Issue

Seo Woo Chang, 21, a student living in Lewisham, was reported missing on Tuesday, 6 November. Exactly a week after her disappearance, Seo Woo’s body was found on Wapping Beach.

Yet for some reason her death is being treated as non-suspicious. It’s hard to believe that someone going missing and turning up dead is non-suspicious.

Her family deserves to truly know what happened to her and she deserves a proper investigation into her death the way any other case like her would have been treated.

How can the police have so much time, energy and even extra funds to continue to look for Madeleine McCann who has been ‘missing’ for over 11 years, but they can’t properly investigate a current possible homicide?

The Decision Makers

Sadiq Khan
Mayor of London
Responded
Dear Petitioner, Thank you for the petition submitted on the change.org website about “asking for Justice for Seo Woo Chang”. Our thoughts go out to Seo’s friends, family and anyone who has been affected by her untimely passing. I understand that you may be frustrated by the Metropolitan Police Services’ (MPS) decision to classify Seo’s death as “non-suspicious”. Although this decision may be distressing, we fully support the MPS investigation and findings. Furthermore, the Mayor cannot interfere with individual, operational decisions taken by the MPS. Further information about the death of Seo is currently being compiled for the Coroner. The Coroner will come to a final conclusion at the end of an inquest. This includes the legal ‘determination’ stating formally who died, and where, when and how they died. Although this information is publicly available, and may be broadcast by the press, it is primarily for the immediate family and friends and purposes of the court. It is possible to challenge the coroner’s decision by applying to the High Court for a judicial review. Yours sincerely Public Liaison Unit Greater London Authority
