On Feb 4, 2022 head varsity boys basketball coach Gary Ernst was let go from his coaching position at Mesa Mountain View high school for no reason. After building the basketball program and coaching there for 38 years Coach Ernst has  over 900 total wins and has won 8 state championships, 7 of those at MV. But more importantly, he has built a basketball program based on hard work, dedication, character, loyalty, and accountability with our neighborhood youth.  Through his coaching he has taught many life lessons to young men who have played for him. He was let go from his position with no warning and without explanation. He was let go by a new principal who has only been at MV for 7 months. One man should not have that much control especially over someone who has given so much of his blood, sweat, and tears to Mountain View HS.  Coach Ernst has earned the right to coach the last few years of his career and to go out on his terms. He has dedicated his life to MV basketball and this community.  He has built a program with neighborhood kids in which all high schools should emulate. If we can get Coach Ernst to retain his position as coach then everyone wins especially our youth.
