TAKE BARBERING, COSMETOLOGY, NAIL TECHNOLOGY, AESTHETICS & MASSAGE OUT OF LB-343 IN NEBR.
The Issue
Please join Nebraska's professional Barbers, Cosmetologists, Nail Technicians, Aestheticians, and Massage Therapists in a plea to save the integrity of their licenses and protect the safety of all Nebraskans. Nebraska State Senators, on the Health and Human Services Committee, will be meeting on March 1st, 2017 for a public Committee Hearing regarding LB-343. This bill is currently written to include these professions. It greatly reduces the amount of hours needed for training to receive a license. We know this will negatively impact the interests of all Nebraskans.
What does this mean for Nebraska?
Nebraska's public safety is at risk! Students will not be properly trained in chemical services, important techniques, and sanitation. Professionals are currently trained to safely apply chemical products that could otherwise cause harm.. This information is vital to help stop the spread of infection and parasites, including lice, Herpes Simplex Virus, Hepatitis B and C, HIV, and folliculitis.
This is not in the best interest of Nebraska's students! Our next generation of professionals will not be adequately prepared to successfully launch their careers. Their education will see a lowered standard of theory and creative competency. A significant hour deduction in the current curriculum will not help them to pass a state test. Future graduates will have problems competing with established professionals already in the industry. We are setting them up for failure.
Nebraska professionals are proud of their license and it has value. Why fix what's not broken?
Are you a concerned Nebraskan regarding these issues with LB-343? You can make a difference. It's easy. Please contact your State Senators by signing this petition, today!
Please show up at the LB-343 Committee hearing! We need your presence. It's being held March 1st at our State Capitol, in room 1510. It's scheduled to start at 9:15 AM. (Another bill is also on that date, so LB-343 may not start at that time.) Your fellow professionals will be there as a sign of solidarity. If you wish to speak, please arrive 35 minutes early to sign up with the Clerk, at the door.
