We the citizens of Birkenhead support the campaign headed by our MP and Birkenhead’s Councillors to strongly oppose any closure of the Woodside Ferry Terminal. We oppose this both for the historic reason of the Ferry being the first link forged between Wirral and Liverpool, and because Wirral residents already pay a handsome fee to Merseytravel through the unfair tunnel tolls, some of which should be used to renovate and develop the Terminal.

We also believe the threat by Merseytravel to the Woodside Ferry Terminal totally ignores the two major regeneration initiatives, one concerning the town centre to match the development in New Brighton and the other to foster an improved business environment in the Birkenhead BID, both of which will benefit the further development of the river crossing from Woodside. We call on Merseytravel to recognise that Wirral and Liverpool have been linked by an umbilical cord since the time of King Edward III, and we wish for this to be maintained.
