Miriam- Webster's dictionary defines the word "nigger" as a black person; a member of any dark-skinned race; a member of a socially disadvantaged class of persons. This definition is unacceptable. I began this petition with the intent to list the correct definition of this word along with references to all materials that support my words but, actually not to my surprise, the true definition has been erased from all existence. The only traces of the original definition that I could find were through writings of people that share my view. The true definition of the word "nigger" as originally defined in Noah Webster's dictionary (not to be confused with Miriam-Webster's) is an "ignorant or shiftless person." This can be any person, from any race and any class of persons. I have found that several attempts have been made to have Miriam-Webster's correct this definition and obviously those attempts have failed therefore the fight continues. So, for the sake of "compromise" for anyone who would feel that's a better route to take, Miriam-Webster's could at the very least define the word as a term ONCE used to describe a black person, a slur.  I personally don't find complete satisfaction in this (hence the compromise) and would like to see the original definition back in place but even this suggestion is better than saying "nigger" equals a black  person or dark-skinned race. I do not want my children growing up thinking that it is okay or normal for someone to call her "nigger" and I definitely do not want her referring to herself in such a way. I am doing all that I can so that my future children, or their children’s children do not have to continue this fight.
