Thousands of schools across the nation are open and operating successfully using a hybrid program. There is no substitute for in person learning and no valid excuse for why the children of Mercer Island can not be back in school safely. The American Academy of Pediatrics has recommended that schools open.

Many students, who have long been stellar students, are now failing and the problem is widespread. Educators across WA have acknowledged this and yet, they are doing nothing to help the students. They have pushed back the return of Kindergarteners twice now. The negative social and educational impact of our children missing FAR more in person school day than that of the rest of the nation, will have an impact far beyond the reach of any virus.

Mercer Island should be leading the way and yet, they claim their hands are tied. The superintendent is only operating in 'black and white', continuing to make excuses as to why we CAN'T be open, vs. working to find a way to to meet the needs of ALL students -- not just those that want to continue to to do so online. 

For those of you who wish to remain at home -- we support you. We are not asking you to return to school if you feel unsafe, we asking for a HYBRID program to accommodate all students.
