Micheal Masi must resign his position to restore F1 credibility.
Micheal Masi must resign his position to restore F1 credibility.
The Issue
The F1 Family was cheated on Sunday the 12th December 2021 in Abu Dhabi at the last race of the 2021 F1 SEASON. Millions of fans across the world were denied an end to an exciting race that was a genuine and fair reflection of 57 laps of a 58 lap race by the race director Micheal Masi, how?
He changed the rules as stipulated in the F1 Rulebook and allowed 5 lapped cars to overtake Lewis Hamilton who was the race leader bringing his title rival directly behind him to race to the finish of the remaining 2 miles left of the Grand Prix.
This decision directly contradicted his very own decision moments earlier when he stated the cars will not be allowed to overtake, after the team principal of Redbull racing questioned the decision, Michael Masi then changed his mind placing the Redbull driver at a distinct and unfair advantage.
It must be noted, only Lewis Hamilton had lapped the 5 cars, so to allow the same vehicles to un-lap themselves was unfair on Lewis Hamilton and placed him at a disadvantage, essentially undoing his efforts under race conditions many laps earlier.
This decision unfairly prejudiced Lewis Hamilton and the Mercedes F1 team.
His rival Max Verstappen did not overtake the 5 cars in question.
This resulted in an unfair advantage for the Redbull team and essentially handed them the race victory.
If he was going to allow cars to overtake then the rules state all cars will be allowed to overtake, however, he only allowed the cars that were directly between the Mercedes and Redbull to overtake, clearing the path for the Redbull to have a clear and unfair advantage to win the race.
During the season Michael Masi has shown questionable decision-making and contradicted himself on more than one occasion, he has failed to uphold the integrity of the sport and failed in his duty of care to the stakeholders of the sport, including, fans, drivers, sponsors, and Teams.
The fact is simple, allowing the 5 cars to un-lap themselves hurt one driver and favored another, Micheal Masi behaved unethically and went against the unwritten rules of fair play and ethical conduct.
His failure to create a fair and transparent environment for all stakeholders has brought the sport into disrepute and shattered the confidence of millions of race fans across the world.
This petition is not asking for the result to be overturned, but for this type of injustice to never be allowed to happen again, for that to happen Michael Masi must resign.
All sponsors and stakeholders must speak up and cannot simply move forward without addressing the injustice we saw in front of our very own eyes in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
We ask all sponsors and stakeholders who value equality, fair play, and justice to sign this petition.
With great regret
Fair play.
