Fed up with mass evictions of innocent renters after foreclosures, the Merced City Council on November 21 adopted a "Just Cause for Eviction Law." The Vote was 5-2. The important law will protect tenants from arbitrary eviction after foreclosure and prevent communities from unnecessary vacancies and blight.
The new Mayor (Thurston) and three council members (Pedrozo, Murphy, and Dossetti) have called for a hearing to repeal this crucial ordinance. They are serving the interests of a bunch of realtors who oppose the law, rather that the thousands of Merced residents who need these protections.
We, the undersigned, Support Merced's "Just Cause for Eviction Law" and OPPOSE the realtor-led effort to repeal it. We will mobilize to protect Merced's tenants, families and neighborhoods from further abuse at the hands of big banks and their realtors.
