Mental Health Action Plan - Williamstown High School

The issue

Students attending Williamstown High School seek support from the wellbeing team on a daily basis, whether it is about their ongoing mental illness or experiencing distress, yet it doesn't seem to be enough.

Mental health impacts a student's grades as their performance is hindered, their attitude is inconsistent and their attendance is in the low percentiles.

This can be changed if we start initiating new strategies such as:

  • A cooperative and clear communication system between wellbeing counsellors and teachers to assist student's specific needs.
  • More practitioners to increase availability for students.
  • The current process that students undertake to talk to a practitioner needs to become more accessible and inclusive.
  • Improved training towards staff members on understanding the varieties of mental health conditions, the impacts they have and how to assist students.
  • More collaborative connections with external mental health resources for students to access ; and
  • Generate more funding towards mental health resources using avenues such as fundraising.

In order for students to have a smooth start next year with better support while transitioning into tougher year levels or new students coming to Williamstown High School, this needs to begin changing now.

We need as much support as we can get and would appreciate you signing this petition and sharing it around to spread awareness.
