The Issue

We have a history-making opportunity to restore ancestral lands to tribal descendants while protecting fragile coastal habitat in Mendocino County.

"This is sacred land to these three tribes. California Native American tribes have been the caretakers of the Golden State for centuries. They’ve protected our coastlines, our forests and our wildlife, and they want to take the lead in efforts to better restore those cultural landmarks that are currently on that stretch of California coastline.” - State Senator Mike McGuire

Summary: The proposed law, Senate Bill 231, directs Caltrans to transfer the Blues Beach property to a tribal nonprofit corporation for management as a nature preserve with continued public access, protection of environmental resources, and no development. The property will revert to Caltrans if those conditions are violated.

Once you sign the petition, there's much more to do! We need radio, cable TV, news, and social media coverage demonstrating our support for SB 231.
