Stop PG&E Plans to Cut Old Redwoods at Faulkner Park
The Issue
Under the guise of power line safety, PG&E is planning to cut down old growth redwoods at Faulkner Park near Boonville. Given to Mendocino County in 1930, Faulkner Park is Boonville’s largest public park, with hiking trails and picnic areas.
Two feasible alternatives to falling the big old trees are using extra strong power lines and under-grounding the line. Under-grounding costs more, but it is fail-safe and the stretch of wire involved, which is right along the County Road, is only about 1/4 mile. This is a reasonable trade-off for protecting some of the very few old growth redwoods left in our area, or indeed, in the world.
If you agree that the old redwoods should be saved, please sign our petition and look at the photos on our Friends of Faulkner Park Facebook page. X on the tree means cut!
