My journey in the realm of netball hasn't been an easy one. It has been filled with grueling training, endless sweat, and hard work. Yet the recognition for our immense dedication in a sport we love: men's netball, remains absent in high-level competitions such as the Commonwealth Games. This is the story of many male netball players who've similarly invested time and passion into this sport. However, we lack the platform to compete at the same stakes, simply on the bases of our gender.
Despite netball being historically seen as a female sport, the evolution it has undergone is noteworthy. According to the International Netball Federation, male participation in netball has seen an exponential rise, which reflects the changing attitudes and breaking of traditionally set gender norms in sporting activities (source: International Netball Federation). Today, there are an estimated 20% of male players involved at high levels of netball worldwide. Yet we're barred from one of the most prestigious events in the world — the Commonwealth Games.
The inclusion of men's netball in the 2026 Commonwealth Games would not just uphold the principle of equality in sports, but would also encourage more participation from men across the globe. We call on the Commonwealth Games Federation to recognize our efforts and endurance. We have trained just as hard, if not more, and deserve a chance to display our prowess and passion for netball. Sign the petition and stand with male netball players around the world. Help us net our dreams in the Commonwealth court.
