Continue the Sunset Symphony

The Issue

We the people of Memphis are asking our city's largest and oldest international festival to reverse their decision to end the Sunset Symphony each Memorial Day weekend. For 39 years this event, featuring the Memphis Symphony Orchestra performing beside the river in Tom Lee Park has cheered and thrilled Memphians of all ages and backgrounds. It has featured guest performers as diverse as Governor Lamar Alexander and Isaac Hayes. While the festival claims that such events have lost popularity in other cities, Memphis is not "other cities", nor have Memphians been properly surveyed about whether they would like the Sunset Symphony to continue. Memphis In May as an organization depends upon the use of property that belongs to the taxpayers of Memphis, and should be responsive to their wishes.
