Peter Gode was more than just a town employee in Cheshire, Connecticut. He was our brother, a devoted life member of the Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department, a supporter of the CHS Marching Ram Band, and a dedicated father. On October 3, 2000, Peter tragically lost his life on Brentwood Drive while diligently patching potholes, an accident that left our community grieving. Struck fatally by a dump truck, Peter's passing marked a heartrending day in our town's history.

In the 25 years since that tragic accident, we have consistently requested the Cheshire town council to honor Peter's memory by naming a building or parklet, etc. after him. It is our belief that recognizing Peter through a public memorial will not only commemorate his service but also serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who work to keep our town functioning smoothly.

Many towns across America have established honorable traditions of memorializing employees who have given their lives in service to their community. Cheshire should be no different. As we approach this significant anniversary, it is the perfect time to stand together and honor Peter's legacy publicly. Such a gesture would mean the world not only to his family but also to everyone who knew him and appreciated his contributions to the community.
