The Issue

Dear B52,

I am a long-time fan, and follower of your music. I am writing to let you know of the abuses that the Woodland Park Zoo have perpetrated on their two senior Elephants, Chai and Bamboo.

83% of the residents of Seattle have asked the Woodland Park Zoo to release these Intelligent, Self-Aware, Social animals to be retired to an elephant sanctuary, where they can live out the remainders of their lives in peace. in an environment more socially beneficial and  suited to their needs.

Deborah Jensen, Director of the  Woodland Park Zoo, having said "Tennessee Sanctuary is not accepting new animals. They have health problems in their herd and they're not accepting new animals." as cited in 'My Northwest' by Rachel Belle, when in fact Communication manager Mary Beth Ikard says Woodland Park Zoo has never contacted them.

"We have not had a conversation with them about sanctuary for Chai and Bamboo, no. We are open to new elephants. We are here to serve as a forever home for North America's population of captive elephants, especially as they are poised to retire."

This is not the first untruth Deborah Jensen, charged with the care and well-being of these sentient beings has been caught in either. The only losers to her self-serving untruths are Chai and Bamboo, being exiled to yet another Zoo for display and possible breeding purposes, neither of which enhance these Elephants lives, quite the contrary.

I, along with the International community of Animal Rights Supporters for the Humane release of Chai and Bamboo, implore you to cancel your upcoming concert at the Woodland Park Zoo, as so many courageous Entertainers did last year with Seaworld, when they learned of the abuses on animals in that instance as well.

The world applauded their stance on compassion, and we are asking you take the same stance for the sake of these two, so loved Elephants, Chai and Bamboo.

Respectfully,

Your fans and admirers.
