Animal Cruelty Legislation Advocates Canada
Feb 11, 2018
Dear friends, On February 7, MP Erskine-Smith presented petition e-718 in the House of Commons. He stated as follows: "Mr. Speaker, I have four petitions to present today that are all related to improving the humane treatment of animals in Canada. The first two petitions are signed by over 40,000 Canadians calling on our government to improve the Criminal Code's animal cruelty section. Ninety-two percent of Canadians are in support. As some in the House will remember, I introduced a bill, which was defeated. However, the minister did state that all Canadians care about this issue, and 40,000 Canadians are calling on our government to institute and implement immediately a review of the Criminal Code." The government has 45 days to respond to the petition. We will provide their response when we receive it. THANK YOU so much to Nathaniel Erskine-Smith and to everyone who signed the petition! https://openparliament.ca/debates/2018/2/7/nathaniel-erskine-smith-1/
