Manister and Crecora Community Members started this petition to Niall Collins FF and

I as a member of the Manister and Crecora Community strongly object to the proposed plum and teal route for the new M20 motorway.

The proposed route runs through and alongside many major historical, archaeological and ecological sites.

This route would have a detrimental impact on the environment with destruction of woodlands, destruction of the habitat of the endangered specie curlews and many more. It would have a detrimental impact to Tory Hill and the surrounding areas which are protected by the SAC.  We are also concerned of the impact on the river Camogue and its fisheries due to run off during construction phases. This river is a major spawning site for the already threatened and fragile species of wild Atlantic salmon and brown trout.

If houses are knocked there are no replacement houses to buy in the area so we will see a huge decline in the population of the parish. This could take out 3 generations of some families in areas.

Parents have major concerns in both schools on the impact this division of the catchment area could play in the numbers attending the local schools, which will have a major impact on pupils education, with teachers numbers decreasing.  The potential of reduced numbers would also mean that the after school service would no longer be viable.

A large population in the area are employed in the farming community. We have many beef, dairy and arable farmers. We also have a large number of world famous stud farms. The new road will impact on many of this community and could result in the farms no longer being viable.

A motorway through a rural community could have a huge impact on the mental health of people who have chosen rural life for the peace and tranquillity, or due to specific needs that their children with special educational needs may have.

As per the World Health Organisation advice these pollutants increase health issues such as respiratory issues. Members of our community have chosen a rural environment as a healthy living choice. Pollutants such as carbon emissions, sediment, litter, tyre particles, oil and particulates from exhaust will drastically increase in the area.  These particles in the air are then captured from the air by failing rain. Most of the community have private wells and this could hugely impact the quality of water in the area.

An increase in flooding will be caused as many areas are already prone to flooding in the winter.

The existing motorway between Limerick to Patrickswell cost 90 million euro. This was due to tie into the Cork Road. This is a massive expense on the tax payers if these routes no longer connect. Not using this will also increase the destruction to the environment by not using the old road.

We believe that the proposed routes would cause a major division in the Manister and Crecora community which has existed since 800 AD and strongly object.

Members of the Manister and Crecora Community
