Thank you so much for heeding the call to Action and sharing your communications to Congress with us! Well done! I'm sharing the latest update below, and urging everyone to continue spreading the word about our Call To Action with your network of friends who will join our efforts.
Latest Update from Politico - Polis Amendment to FAA Reauthorization Bill
HOUSE FAA BILL UP IN THE AIR: House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s floor schedule for this week left out Transportation Chairman Bill Shuster’s FAA reauthorization bill. The million-dollar question, of course, is why. It’s likely some combination of not enough votes — as our friends at POLITICO Playbook reported: “The whip count was close to a few dozen votes short as of the time lawmakers left town Friday afternoon” — and efforts to accelerate appropriations adding pressure on floor time.
But wait: The bill, H.R. 2997 (115), could be added quickly to the floor schedule if there’s an opening or if the whip count changes.
*******
So, what does this mean for Quiet Skies supporters? We have a little more time to spread the word and ask our friends for support. After you have contacted your U.S. Rep (#2 below), please help us with #3 below and share this Call To Action with others.
CALL TO ACTION -
FOR ALL QUIET SKIES SUPPORTERS ACROSS THE UNITED STATES:
1.) If your U.S. House Rep is Jared Polis (D-CO) then please send him a note of thanks for presenting the Polis Amendment and skip to step #3 below.
2.) Please contact your U.S. House Representative today (if you are calling please call the D.C. number) and every day throughout the next week to urge support for the "Polis Amendment to the FAA Reauthorization bill", which will restore local control over general aviation airports.
Tell your representative that you support local control over general aviation airports so that local governments can adopt sensible noise regulations to protect their communities from excessive aviation noise. Without this amendment, local governments will continue to be prevented by the Federal Aviation Administration from adopting any noise regulations.
Find your House Representative Here:
3) Share this email far and wide with others across the U.S. who support local control and sensible environmental regulations. If adopted, this amendment will be a game changer at general aviation airports all across America.
AN EXAMPLE
If you are calling, then just a brief 3-4 sentences will suffice. The most important thing to tell your U.S. House Rep is "I am your constituent and I'm calling to urge you to support the Polis Amendment to the FAA Reauthorization Bill. This Amendment will restore much-needed local control over general aviation airports, and allow the airport operator to adopt sensible noise regulations to protect their communities from excessive aviation noise." Feel free to add a couple of sentences from your personal experience, indicating why you support local control and sensible environmental regulations.
Please Call, Write, Spread the word!
