Increase the severity of the punishment of illegal ownership of exotic animals

The Issue

In Minnesota, the punishment for illegally owning an exotic animal or owning one without a license is a fine of $200-$2000, and the animal might be taken away. This petition is aiming to increase the severity of the punishment in order to deter people from owning potentially dangerous animals. In Minnesota, from 2010-2019, there have been 29 exotic animal pets that have attacked their human "owners". We believe that by increasing the severity of the punishment, humans and their families would be safer, and the animals could go to a more suitable habitat. Sign this petition to help make lives better for animals and humans alike. Even if you don't have an exotic animal yourself, if someone who lives near you has one and the animal gets out, the entire neighborhood is in danger, including your family and pets. Due to the cold weather of Minnesota, the animal itself is also in danger.
