Stop the Riverview Wawa in Melbourne, Florida

Stop the Riverview Wawa in Melbourne, Florida
The Issue
The construction of a Wawa gas station/convenience store on the northeast corner of the intersection of U.S. 192 and U.S. 1 in downtown Melbourne, Florida is unnecessary and problematic for a number of reason, including, but not limited to:
- Adding increased traffic congestion at an arterial road intersection that is already plagued by congestion and inefficient traffic management;
- Do to its position at the end of a bridge spanning a waterway, it introduces an unnecessary constriction of vehicle movement, as well as a burden to the residents opposite, to which alternative routes cannot alleviate;
- Its placement in Melbourne's Historic Riverview Village is inconsistent with the community's goal of protecting the 120-year old neighborhood;
- Its presence is inconsistent with the City of Melbourne's downtown redevelopment plan;
- Its demographic aim is to capitalize on transient visitors to the beachside communities, at the expense of residents who traverse the intersection multiple times a day, most days of the week, to commute from home to work/school.
Unless these issues can be constructively solved with input from and consultation with the community, it will remain our position to oppose the introduction of any Wawa convenience store at this location.
