We citizens of Meigs County Tennessee petition the Meigs County Commissioners to vote "no" to building the Justice Center at the site recently purchased. (The tract adjacent to Highway 30, just before the intersection of Highway 58).

This new Jail/Justice Center construction would be much better suited constructed at an alternate location such as the Industrial Park, or the current location of the Meigs County Jail/Kennedy property.

We the citizens are concerned for the following reasons:

*The proposed location is the first governmental building to be seen by people traveling from Athens/Interstate 75. We feel it will be an eyesore.

*It is too close in proximity to Meigs Middle School and the Decatur Park.

*It encroaches upon the developed subdivision of Park Grove. This development will cause property values of this location and surrounding homes to fall.

*This land is better suited for commercial property which is very limited in Meigs County/Decatur. 

*The estimated expense of this project will be too great of a burden to the tax payers of Meigs County.

We thank you for hearing our concerns and we ask that you listen to these voices of your constituents. We value your efforts to develop our county but we firmly ask this project not proceed.
