Everyday there’s a story of another case of animal abuse on the news, posted on social media or in the newspaper. Wombats being stoned to death. Cats having their tails count off. Emus being chased and run down. And too many cases of dogs being neglected, to mention, here. It breaks my heart. 

On the rare occasion someone is prosecuted, what do they get? A smack on the wrist! A suspended sentence. A small fine. 

Unfortunately, animals don’t have a voice. So it’s time we used ours and spoke out for them. It won’t take long or cost anything. Such a little thing to ask, in return for all the love and devotion they give us. 

Mehreen Faruqi, Senator for NSW, holds the portfolio for animal welfare. Please make it clear to her that she needs to ensure the courts apply the maximum penalty in cases of animal cruelty and extreme neglect, signing and sharing this petition.
