Dear house of representatives,

My name is Olivia Reeves and I am an intermediate student in New Zealand. I am writing this on the behalf of the animals and many people; people who are against animal testing, New Zealand has stopped cosmetics being tested on animals, but I don't think we have banned cosmetics that are tested on animals being imported into Aotearoa. 

There is no point in banning animals from being tested on in our country when we're still supporting it by importing the products tested on animals into the country. Just think of all those poor animals still suffering. Even if they're in different countries, they still need to be protected.

If you're still not convinced, then let's step into the life of one of these helpless animals for a while. You wake up in a dirty, dark, gloomy cage and all you hear are the screams of your kind. Then, a huge hand grabs you carelessly, transports you violently to a table, and puts you in a weird mechanism that holds you down.

You see it grab a weird-looking piece of plastic, filled with a strange liquid as it grabs your eye and forces it open, squirting the liquid in. It burns you so much you pass out. When you wake up, you can't see through that eye and it still hurts. You look around to see all the cages next to yours, there are other rabbits with huge burns on their back, rabbits with lost limbs, dead rabbits, and more. You drift into sleep knowing that it will happen to you one day shortly.

Would you like that to happen to you? Nobody would, right? Unfortunately, though, many of these poor animals are being killed because of cosmetic testing. If New Zealand stops buying these cosmetics tested on animals, then these businesses will get less money, meaning they won't be able to make more products. This could help a lot of animals as there will be fewer companies testing on them. Furthermore, animal testing can have a cruel, negative impact on the world. sad fact: 500,000 animals die every year from cosmetics globally.

Eventually, other countries will do what we're doing (or what we'll do if this petition works), which will then shut down the businesses and eventually stop animal testing. Please do what you can and sign this petition, the animals and many people including me will be very grateful.
