Please write to the secretary of state requesting a call in of the decision i.e. he looks at it again himself. Email: npcu@communities.gsi.gov.uk My sample letter is below. Dear Sir/ Madam, I am requesting that the Secretary of State to use his powers under section 77 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 to 'Call- in' Medway Council's recent planning application and listed building consents decisions on converting the Royal Oak Frindsbury to housing and building a terrace of three houses in the garden. The application references are MC/17/0193 and MC17/0278 which have yet to be issued. Given the building's Grade II listed status the case is of national importance. Allowing the building of a terrace of housing in the garden of a listed building, bigger than the listed building itself, as it will not impact setting, has the potential to set a negative precedent undermining the protection of the historic environment. Medway Council has failed to follow both national and local policies in respect of these decisions. Medway Council's planning department's recommendations also mislead the planning committee as they had multiple factual inaccuracies. The case has a further national importance for the protection of heritage assets given that the community, organised a petition signed by thousands, listed the building, protected it with ACV status, submitted hundreds of objections to the applications, enlisted our MP's support in her objection to the proposal, organised to try and buy the pub, and submitted detailed reasons why its loss was against national and local policy, only to be dismissed with no reasoning as to why such policies should not be followed. It is hard to see how communities can protect their heritage assets if they take all these steps and still failure to secure their future. Yours faithfully,
