In it's current state, Landstinget Dalarna's (LSD) workstations are equipped with Windows and end-users are essentially forced to use Internet Explorer v. 11 (IE11).

To my knowledge there is currently no option to choose an alternate Browser. This decision impacts user-experience, work efficiency and possibly even patient-care negatively. 

There are several important factors contributing to this:

I ) Features: Limited support for modern web technologies (e.g. HTML5: 312p out of 555p, see here). Web-technologies are rapidly changing and many modern day frameworks feature limited support only for IE11, while fully supporting other major-brand browsers (Firefox, Chrome ...).

Not only does this lead to limitation in the use of many websites in the daily work flow, but it heavily discourages companies serving the medical sector from using these technologies in order to produce better, more modern and feature-rich software.

II ) Customizability: IE11 does not support the usage of plug-ins to add extra functionality e.g. Adblock. This results in the lack of an extra layer of security as a consequence (e.g. password manager, adblock, script-blockers, tracking-blockers)

III ) Speed and usability: IE11 performs clearly inferior compared with every other major browser. Even IE's developer Microsoft has shifted to promote and encourage the use of EDGE instead (see here, copyright: www.digitaltrends.com
