Medicare for One Pet per Household

Medicare for One Pet per Household
The issue
As a loving pet owner in QLD, Australia, I firmly believe our pets are an integral part of our families. My belief is shared by many, as indicated by a 2019 report from the Australian Bureau of Statistics stating that over 60% of Australian households own pets. As indispensable members of our homes, they deserve healthcare rights similar to the rest of the family. So, we humbly request a reform in the current Medicare system that would extend coverage to include one pet per household.
Due to the rising costs of veterinary care, many pet owners often find themselves in financial distress when it comes to choosing the best health care for their pets. Studies have shown that the average dog owner spends about AUD 1,475 on vet expenses per year. This steep amount is not always affordable for families.
By initiating Medicare coverage for one pet per household, we can assure our furry friends receive the appropriate care they need without burdening Australian families financially and also improve the overall pet health in the country, reducing the number of pets surrendered due to medical costs.
Let us not forget, our cherished pets offer more than companionship, for some people their beloved pet is their only family. They contribute to our lives in ways that are hard to measure. Pets have proven to provide mental health benefits, stress relief, and even decrease heart disease risks.
By having Medicare, Vets can provide pet owners with information and resources on pet health and wellness to promote preventive care and responsible ownership.
Our pets require regular preventive care, including vaccinations, dental check-ups, and routine health screenings. Early detection and treatment of health issues can prevent more serious and costly problems in the future.
Medicare for One domestics pet per household means regardless of peoples financial situation they have access to public veterinary care for their beloved pets. Our dogs/ cats/Guinea pigs etc, are more than just pets; they are members of our families, and their health and well-being are of utmost important.
The program would cover one pet per household, allowing families to choose which pet to enrol.
We urge the Federal Goverment and Department of Health and relevant authorities to consider this reform and add one pet per household and not deprived our much loved pets of medical assistance due to financial constraints. Please support this cause and sign the petition.
Together, we can make a change for our four-legged family members.
Please do not pay or contribute any money.just send link on. Thanks heaps
