Hi, my name is Shivam Selam. I am an MBBS student (second year) in lucknow, MAYO INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES. I have seen alot of cases of corruption and politics as I'm an indian. Please read my story below and help me bring a change for a better today and a brighter tomorrow. Well, 3 years ago in Referral hospital in dimapur, Nagaland, My brother got admitted because of a mild paralysis. In the ward room next to him, a man was lying unconscious. I saw him the first day and kept on seeing him for the next 10 days. When i asked the guy who was assisting him i.e, his relative, he replied that the patient was an alcoholic and now his liver and kidneys are fully damaged. So i asked, what are the doctor's doing about that? He replied that they won't be able to keep him alive for long. I asked about the treatment. He said that alot of money has already been spent but without recovery, amd the hospital was not letting him discharge. I was dumbfounded. I asked him why? I told him that if they are not able to treat him you should take him to a specialist hospital instead of an all-in-one. He replied, "they said that he needs to stay for one more week". I was dumbfounded. He already told that alot of money had been spent but there was no recovery,then why was the hospital still keeping him? The bills were increasing every minute he lay unconscious in that bed. I advised the relative that he should try to get him discharged from that corrupted and inhuman hospital and take him to a specialist. I hope they did that. I knew this country is filled with money minded inhuman scoundrels but i never expected it in a hospital. Its a place where every person on this planet seeks when he/she is unwell. The people whom the public believe is next to God is killing people with their income policy. Recently my father had a second stroke and a high diabetes sugar level so he got admitted in an International hospital in Guwahati, Assam. He was in ICU for two days amd got shifted to general ward when his condition decreased but the medication they were providing didn't get his sugar levels down. Instead the medications drugged him and he would always be sleepy and exhausted. I was very scared. On the seventh day when my dad pleaded the nurse that he wants to go home they injected another insulin that brought his sugar levels down on a zippy. But again afyer he ate the food they provided, his sugar level increased. I was very furious when i realized that. He is still under treatment but at home. I never thought that hospitals had this policy of keeping the patient for a limited time where they earn enough from that treatment. Even if the bills were high i expected a quick recovery as we were in a expensive hospital but it was the same there. I hate politics and i hate in more when they play with our minds and beliefs. India is a place where there is very less humanity and excess number of frauds and scams and people playing politics with each other. Watching Satyamev Jayate by Aamir Khan my mind had opened alot to these scams and money minded politics. If we want to bring a change we should start from the hospitals. I couldn't believe that this kind of cases happens on hospitals. I cannot looks at my dad i used to. He is unable to walk like he used to am before this recent treatment he could atleast limp. Money is not the problem but the people is. Such high levels of corruption! Its 2015 and there are more beggars in the streets than the number of hospital. India is a very rich country but the people are still ppor and helpless. Even though there are facilities to get things right. They are afraid of the people in power. Or for instance they believe everything the doc says. Why play with the lives of the patients when they are coming to you to get better, feel better, spending everything they had been saving up. I believe the Medical Council of India and the ministry of health and family welfare will help us in bringing a change in this feild of medical sciences. Help me friends and brothers and sisters. The most effective way would be cancelling thw doctor's license of giving a final warning of removing this political businessfrom the health management section. If we just sit and watch and don't give a damn we will face the same and our childrens will too. I really don't want that to happen and i believe a hospital is place to recover, not steal the money my giving false/faulty medications or keeping the patient tied to bed to keep him/her longer than supposed to. Help me get this petition accepted by the higher authorities so that tomorrow when I'm sick and need to go for treatment i wont be under a very scared feeling of "am i really going to recover or are they just stealing my money".
