Compensation for ridiculous waiting times for tax statements from Medibank

The issue

The majority of customers on Medibanks Facebook page, including myself, have expressed frustrations in not receiving our tax statements for the last financial year. This prevents all of us from being to lodge a tax return, looking at some of the comments most people have planned their lives around tax time, including myself. I am on maternity leave and the little amount of money we receive helps pay for the basics. We are in no way struggling, but we always do our tax returns in the first week of July to help with bills, like most average Australians. Some of the comments from other affected people - some people are planning weddings, holidays, even surgery. This money most people receive at tax time is planned in advance, they know their employers will hand out their tax statement within a week or two. Medibank customers are the only private health issuers that HAVE NOT given their customers a tax statement. Barely any explanation apart from that they are having their systems upgraded. Some customers have been notified that we MIGHT receive our tax statements by the 31st of July. This will then push everyone's tax lodging and returns by another two to three weeks. This just isn't good enough. Medibank can issue members a form to complete for financial hardship, however after filling in this form it is up to their discretion whether they will give anything back to compensate the member. Once again, not good enough. If it's takes them one full month to issue a tax statement, a legal responsibility, I do not think it is unreasonable for Medibank to waive one month of the affected customers cover. Please sign this petition to get Medibank to stand up and apologise for the inconvenience caused to possibly thousands and thousands of customers.
