Why this petition matters

According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund a total of 1,511 law enforcement officers died in the line of duty during the past 10 years, an average of one death every 58 hours or 151 per year. There were 129 law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty in 2017.

Nike, however, has a different example of sacrificing everything. Nike’s example of someone who proclaims to have sacrificed everything is alive and well. Nike’s example, Colin Kaepernick, has as of September 3, 2018 kicked of their new “Just Do It” campaign with an ad that reads, "Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything."

Nike and Colin Kaepernick have a different understanding of what “sacrificing everything” means than the families, friends, and agencies of the 21,541 officers whose names are engraved on the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.

Nike's example Kaepernick, who enjoyed wearing socks with pictures of pigs dressed like police officers before he began making even more news by not standing for the national anthem, can never, of course, explain how he has sacrificed everything to the families, friends, and agencies of the officers whose names are engraved on those walls.

Never is when supporters of law enforcement should buy Nike products. Now would be a good time to sign our petition asking Nike to terminate its relationship with Colin Kaepernick.

The National Police Association is a 501(c)3 nonprofit with a mission of educating supporters of law enforcement in how to help police departments accomplish their goals. To learn more visit us online at NationalPolice.org
