Help Black Women Get Economic Justice After 155 Years

The Issue

For too long Black women have been forced to operate at the sidelines of the important intersection of entertainment, media, and tech. Whether it's receiving only .0006% of the $424.7 billion in startup funding to making up only 2.16% of media decision-makers, or being nearly invisible studio execs, board members, production, crew; yet are the biggest users of social media (therefore generating the traffic for the ad dollars paid to these companies), out-indexing in terms of media consumption across TV and other platforms (again, driving ad dollars), making up the largest segment of female entrepreneurs yet make pennies on the dollar to their Caucasian counterparts. As we watch the convergence of this space of storytelling whether visual or written with new forms of tech, Black women MUST begin to be wildly included in meaningful ways and share in the money that they help others make. Thus, in honor of the 155th Juneteeth, particularly during the movement for justice, we ask for your signature to be part of 155 to women show solidarity in support of Black women needing a seat at the media-entertainment tech table as we all work to create a new, inclusive era or we risk losing even more ground in an era driven by tech. Sign up if you want to see a new initiative that calls on these industries to support hard-working, innovative Black women. I must see this done for our ancestors, the current generation, and the future generation so that they can feel the self-worth to which they are so very much entitled! The time is now!
