DeviantArt has a Fetish Art Problem. Lets Solve It.
The Issue
deviantArt.com is an expansive and incredibly diverse community of artists of all skills and backgrounds and where everyone from movie content artists or new artists can form a community together.
However, deviantart has a problem.
A Fetish Art Problem.
Both on the website and abroad deviantart is mocked for how prevalent its community of would be porn and fetish art is from bondage to more niche fair such as inflation or expansion.
However, draconian blocking practices and third-party algorithms to block and hide the content of those communities have started cropping up and in conjunction with deviantart's new policy of preventing the blocked individual from even seeing the gallery or art of whoever blocked them has created a major problem as well. And with people fleeing the new puritan standards of Tumblr have seen another influx in such content.
So for those who do make such content, they are finding themselves isolated from the artists they want to watch due to said third-party algorithms and prevention of viewing of content and no ability to view the content outside of ban-evasion which as dA's rules state constitutes harassment and is punished by IP-banning. .
Fetish/NSFW artists need a place to show their content freely and people who don't want to deal with those shouldn't have to view it.
Neither group should be punished by the current draconian blocking algorithms or auto-removal bots when content gets reported.
Solution: Make a Second Site.
Simply enforcing more draconian rules will not work as the blanket NSFW ban on Tumblr clearly shows. What is needed is a site whose functionality and community features are as refined as deviant-arts but catering to the vast number of artists who express themselves in a way that makes other members uncomfortable in terms of expressing Fetish Art.
Other websites are either years behind deviant-art, specifically cater to a specific group of people, locked behind stringent quality control standards, or are bound by the rules of another countries copyright and censorship laws.
Those reasons are some of the many reasons deviantart has such a massive "Fetish Art" problem as is decried all over the site. There's no other sites for that content to be sent too!
A huge chunk of deviantart is already dedicated to fetish art, a basic search using the 'bondage' tag nets over 614,800 results at the time of this posting and there is at least two dozen groups dedicated to showcasing that specific content.
Fetish Artists don't want to have to deal with their stuff getting removed or bogging down the search engine and basic people don't want to see the fetish art. So a seperate site for NSFW content would kill-two birds with one stone as well as potentially netting the new site immense amounts of traffic and revenue from people using dA's format to show their NSFW freely. One of the greatest webcomic success stories from dA, Sunstone, is a BDSM comic, afterall.
This petition was inspired by ten years of dealing with the ineptitude of dA handling of the fetish art problem and dealing with harrassment from people who dislike my content. As well as recently being blocked by an artist I had never met and due to recent changes to how blocking works, was unable to see any of their content or art my friends were showing me, which due to being able to block via browsing and the third party blacklisting algorithms have rendered huge portions of the website inaccessible to me.
The second-site solution will kill two birds with one stone and make browsing more preferable for everyone involved.
