The Plastic Bag Ordinance has been enforced in our neighboring cities of Cambridge and Somerville. These cities have set an example that Medford should follow to improve the city's carbon footprint. Single-use plastic bags are used excessively, and they take a very long time to fully decompose. The students of Medford High School are seeking support from the city of Medford to establish this ordinance. The ordinance would ban single-use plastic bags from being used in stores; alternatives such as paper and reusable bags will be used as replacements.
