Over the course of 3 years since living in the Olde Providence neighborhood, the traffic on Rea Road has gotten considerably heavier and more dangerous when trying to walk or drive in and out of Summerlin Place.

We are requesting that Mecklenburg County, City of Charlotte, and the North Carolina Department of Transportation install a traffic signal at the intersection of Rea Road and Summerlin Place in the city limits of Charlotte, NC 28226. We also request a cross-walk with crossing signal as well. 

The current intersection is extremely unsafe during rush hour and peak season especially when school is in session. We cannot safely exit Summerlin Place from either side especially when school is letting in or out due to the car lines created by the school. We’ve already expressed safety concerns with the school and their solution was to move the crosswalk altogether and eliminate the existing crosswalk altogether. This does not solve the safety concerns for drivers who now block and leave no room to visibly see down Rea Rd to safely turn out of Summerlin Place.
