Rename Bette Rae Recreation Center to VH Sanders Recreation Center

Rename Bette Rae Recreation Center to VH Sanders Recreation Center
The Issue
As former and current residents of Enderly Park we feel that our voice hasn’t been heard as a community. We didn’t receive any feedback for what we want in our community. There is one man who has taken the role as community advocate, father, counselor, coach, car pool driver and so much more. Verdell Sanders served Enderly Park Rec Center known to us as “The Center” for over 20 years and still making a positive influence still in EP, a graduate of Harding high school and graduate of Winston-Salem State University he could have gone anywhere but he choose EP. He has taught us teamwork with entering us in numerous bowling tournaments, numerous basketball leagues, double Dutch competitions; win or loose he still remained in our corner. Years after his Retirement he still makes an effort to make an event we have at our local park yearly. We will honor him and his staff. He kept a lot of troubled youth focused on sports, fitness and being human and caring for your community first. We are young individuals he helped raised into the women and men that we are now. And this started within his influence and this rec center should be named in his honor.
