My name is Vanessa Telford, and I am the lead Petitioner asking for Mount Barker Council to recognise that the Meadows community is asking for/needs a skatepark to be built in Meadows. 

For over 2yrs now, Chicks On Wheels has been running skateboarding 
clinics at the school as part of the OSHC after school program. The kids have been loving challenging themselves, but they have outgrown the basketball court. They're absolutely loving it and are eager to learn more skills!

Why we need a skatepark in Meadows:
Our school holiday clinics are very popular, with the number of participants  ranging between 15 to 35! That’s an impressive number in general, let alone our small community. AND we're proud to say that half of them are GIRLS! 
BUT unfortunately it's costly to bus the kids 45mins to a skatepark that’s  suitable for such a large group. Meadows has the vacant space available and amenities already in place. If we have a skate park built here, then the kids could challenge themselves more often and all of our community could be out there having fun together too!

Meadows is lucky to have a qualified skateboard coach living here -
Vanessa from Chicks On Wheels is passionate about encouraging girls to skateboard because it gives them a huge boost of self confidence and  builds self esteem - and at the same time they have fun! If you have daughters, then you will understand how important this is for them.

PROPOSED LOCATION: We believe that the best site for a skatepark in Meadows, would be on the vacant land next to Battunga Park. Its proposed perimeter would span between the carpark edge, running alongside the creek side and to finish level with the toilet block. We also believe that a picnic table and barbecue area would also be required at the toilet block end, to provide shade as well as a perfect vantage point for families who are utilising the playground and skatepark at the same time.

Our proposed size would only require approximately 450-550sq/meters of land, out of the existing 5,500+ sq/m of vacant land.

This location is ideal because it has the necessary amenities already in place. The few skateparks that are nearest Meadows do not have toilets or a space for younger kids to play (that are too young to participate). Our proposed location is convenient for families that enjoy being outdoors for long periods of time.
