The Issue

Imagine your children passing away and then finding out nine years later that you do not hold the exclusive right of burial for the burial plots.

In the United Kingdom a burial authority can sell the exclusive right of burial to any person and is under no obligation to check the relationship between the purchaser and the person being buried. As many adults choose who they want to make the necessary arrangements when the time comes the exclusive right of burial is a legally binding document naming the person who arranged the funeral as the leaseholder and giving them sole rights to the burial plot, this is often the person known as the executor. Sadly the law around the system is open to manipulation as children under the age of 16 are not able to make this decision for themselves nor would it be legally binding which means a parent can be excluded from making decisions as Meadows mum found out.

Meadows family have set up Meadows Law with the aim to change the law and support parents who might find themselves in a similar situation. Please help us by signing and sharing. Help us to change the law past and present so both parents, guardian or whom ever is named on the registered death certificate of a child under the age of 16 to be automatically named on the exclusive rights of burial upon a child's death.

Thank you
