Revoke E3 Enforcement for students that regularly attend classes and maintain good grades

The Issue

Recently MCPS decided to enforce E3 failures and strictly push teachers to force fail their students when otherwise they wouldn't. This will severely impact students who make a hard effort to not only come to school regularly but also try to maintain a decent grade in class. The policy also doesn't take in account the level of tardiness, Example: a student who is constantly tardy by 1-5 minutes in the morning should not receive the same punishment as a student who comes 20 minutes late during fourth period or as someone who is consistently absent. By enforcing the E3 policy, it will be especially damaging to students that come in tardy for first period. The rule completely disregards a student’s struggle to arrive at school on time which could be due to responsibilities, lack of transportation, weather, medical issues, etc. The class of 2019 is greatly affected due to the sudden change and the E3 enforcement jeopardizes their chances to graduate even if the students are trying their hardest in classes, due to this there may be a class of 200+ adults returning next year, using up space that the schools don't have and taking away educational resources for the next classes coming in. This rule shows that MCPS cares more about filling up seats than the students’ academic effort. This petition is not an attempt to get rid of the E3 Policy, but rather, only to enforce this policy for students who seldom come to class and make no effort academically, and to protect those who do try.
