Stop Killing Adoptable Dogs and Cats

Stop Killing Adoptable Dogs and Cats
The Issue
We, the undersigned, call for a halt to the unnecessary killing of adoptable animals at McLean County Animal Control (MCAC), Bloomington, IL. A civilized society does not accept or endorse the killing of companion animals such as is presently taking place at that facility. MCAC must put in place the life-saving programs of the no-kill equation. Nationwide, it has been proven time and again that no more than 10% of animals taken in at open admission facilities are legitimately deemed unadoptable due to viciousness or from suffering with incurable illness or injury. MCAC recent kill statistics for dogs and cats are as follows:
- 2013 - 42% killed
- 2014 - 30% killed
- As of 3/24/15 - 39% killed (42% of cats and 31% of dogs)
Every animal admitted to MCAC must be photographed, given an identification number, and this information made available to the public on social media and adoption websites such as Petfinder. MCAC needs to provide a safe way out, not only a way in, for each and every animal. Stop hiding these animals behind closed doors.
Ending up at McLean County Animal Control must stop being a death sentence for so many deserving companion animals. Visit the No Kill Advocacy Center to learn more.
We respectfully request that our voices be heard. Please give these animals the chances they deserve.
