For many Douglas residents, the dining hall was an integral part of why they chose Douglas.

While we understand the financial difficulties of opening the room for dining purposes, we ask that you consider making it available as a study space/common area. We believe that having this room will better promote social distancing and create a space where students can collaborate and socialize.

The dining room would augment the capacity provided by the library adjacent to the ballroom which is too small to accommodate over one hundred residents. Having our own study space would also limit contact within the university and greater community as many different students use the various on campus libraries. 

We are aware of the strained resources in student housing, so we would be open to assisting with cleaning and maintaining the dining hall at its most pristine condition. We also accept that any minor transgression on our behalf would revoke our privileges to use the room at the discretion of any and all staff members.
