McDonalds and Tim Hortons: Offer your customers Non-Dairy Milk Alternatives

The Issue

As a recently converted vegan, one of the changes I had to make was using almond or soya milk in my coffee rather than dairy cream. This is a switch I am more than happy to make for my health, the environment and the animals who suffer at the hands of the dairy industry. However, I quickly discovered when I made this switch that two of the biggest companies selling coffee in Canada do not offer a single dairy free milk alternative. Considering the number of people who are lactose intolerant and making the switch to vegan/dairy free diets every day, this is unacceptable. It is time that McDonalds and Tim Hortons accept the fact that times are changing and many people are ditching dairy. I personally believe (and sincerely hope) this is a trend that continues to grow. These multi-billion dollar companies should be respectful of their customers who choose not to consume dairy products and offer non-dairy alternatives to be added to their coffees and teas. If places like Starbucks and Second Cup have found a way to stay profitable while offering their customers non-dairy options, McDonalds and Tim Hortons should be able to figure this out as well.
