Yesterday was a step toward progress in the fight for a McVegan.

On Thursday, at the annual McDonald’s shareholder meeting, we brought our demand for a plant-based burger directly to the shareholders. And it was on the top of the agenda with leadership answering our request as their very first question of the day. This acknowledgment is a big deal for a company that has refused to add a plant-based burger in the states for a half decade.

This means our tweets, calls, emails, and our 215,000 collective voices are working and McDonald’s is listening.

And despite the veiled response by Silvia Lagnado, McDonald’s global chief marketing officer, that "we obviously have to assess the consumer demand,” McDonald’s knows that consumer demand is the reason leadership addressed a meatless burger at their shareholder meeting today. And more importantly, McDonald’s understands that the plant-based meat trend is here to stay, and it is bad business to ignore its customers any longer.

Yesterday, McDonald’s leadership continued to evade the future of a McVegan with no public commitment to adding a plant-based burger on U.S. menus. However, it was also major progress, and we won’t keep fighting until a plant-based burger is on the menu in 2019.

Let’s tell McDonald’s we want to see a firm commitment this year. Click here to tweet at McDonald’s CEO TODAY.
