Repeal Policy on Dyed Hair

The issue

There is a nation-wide policy regarding appearance of McDonald's employees stating that "unnatural" hair colours are not allowed. I think this is completely ridiculous, mainly because the colour of someone's hair in no way effects their ability to do their job effectively, nor is it in any way a safety hazard. The rules regarding having hair tied back, and not having any piercings, not having any nail polish, not having majorly excessive makeup etc. do make sense, as they are avoiding safety hazards. However a person having coloured hair does not cause any food safety issues.

I think it is discriminatory, and if McDonald's would like to appeal well to their most popular consumers; that is the younger generation (teens and twenties), they are not doing a particularly good job by not allowing self-expression by its employees. I believe it is a little rediculous, especially considering I have recently represented my electorate with the YMCA NSW Youth Parliament, and if I am allowed to have bright coloured hair while representing 50,000 people, in the oldest parliamentary chambers in Australia, with absolutely no issues, why should I not be able to continue having coloured hair in my workplace?

I personally have had coloured hair and have made sure to keep it a "natural" colour for work, because I believe it is important to respect and follow the rules made by people who are in charge, even if I do disagree with them. However I think our workplace could easily benefit from easily changing McDonald's Australia's policy to allow "unnatural" coloured hair by its employees.
