Journalism as the Fourth Estate of Government is at a critical juncture in American history. Many media companies are in a state of disarray as they adjust to a new media landscape with abysmally low job security for most journalists. However, opinion columnist/blogger Marcos Breton has withstood several rounds of layoffs at the Sacramento Bee, the city's only paper of record. Sacramentans, and Americans more generally, desperately need  hard-hitting, investigative journalism that brings to light real problems faced by those who are victims of the Kleptocracy that has become both Sacramento's and America's governing apparatus.
