Dear Mayor Cardinal, We, the parents of students at Edgewater School request that the new parking restrictions on Cardinal Leger and 8th Avenue be rescinded, in place of more reasonable parking conditions during school hours. We understand that the new parking laws were brought forth with the intent to protect our students and fellow Pincourt residents. However, the problem has not been solved - it has simply been displaced to neighbouring streets. The minority of drivers who double-parked, made illegal U-turns and drove dangerously continue to do so. Meanwhile, we, the law-abiding majority have been forcibly put in their path because now parents and children MUST cross 8th Avenue or Cardinal Leger to neighbouring streets, as we can no longer park alongside the school. I am sure you can appreciate our concern, as this reconfiguration has put us all at an increased risk. Therefore, we propose the reinstatement of parking on Cardinal Leger and 8th Avenue between 7am-9am and 3pm-6pm, Monday to Friday, to accommodate student drop-off and pick-up. Furthermore, we propose to have public security patrol the area during peak periods, to curb the acts of dangerous driving within the vicinity of Edgewater School.
