Dear friends and neighbors, Thank you so much for all of your support. Your signatures, your tweets and posts, and your hotline calls have been very helpful in ensuring that the issues facing our neighborhood have gotten the attention we needed. Because of your support, and that of our City Councilors Pressley and O'Malley, we have been encouraged by the City's attention. We want to thank Mayor Walsh and ISD Commissioner Christopher for their efforts to ensure our concerns are heard. Here is what has happened so far: 1. The City has told us that there is no legal way for them to deny a demolition permit to an owner who complies with the current application requirements, so,... 2. Commissioner Christopher took the additional step of convening Bicon’s leadership with our neighborhood association, in an effort to facilitate a conversation leading to a mutually agreeable set of next steps. Then,... 3. Bicon attended one of two meetings set up for this purpose, though we didn't agree on next steps, and... 4. We expect that Bicon is now filing for their demolition permit and... 5. ISD will need to review that permit and likely will have to issue it, and... 6. In a continued attempt to help facilitate a mutually agreeable next step, Commissioner Christopher has asked Bicon to agree to delay demolition until we can have at least one more meeting. As of now,... 7. Bicon has agreed to attend that meeting (scheduled for Friday, April 17). We hope that they will a) actually attend the meeting and b) give a fair hearing to our concerns as neighbors, and c) agree to delay demolition pending a mutually agreeable plan for redevelopment of that parcel. Last, ... 8. We also hope that Bicon will share all their plans for their property on Yale Terrace and any concerns or plans they have regarding the neighborhood and future development, so we will not again be surprised as we were in this case. We are sorry to report that it appears extremely unlikely that any outcome of this process will save the building currently at #21 Yale Terrace. Our hopes are now to work closely with our newest neighbor, Bicon Dental Implants, on ensuring that the residential character of our neighborhood is preserved despite their expanded land ownership there, and to begin to develop an open public process regarding future development on our street. We will keep you posted and, again, really appreciate all of your help throughout this process. The Yale Terrace Neighborhood Association
