This monument was constructed as a part of a project called Beautify Wilkes-Barre, it is supposed to be representing our community! You can't even spell community without the word unity! This organization's donation, was accepted with no questions asked. No one thought the name "East Coast Knights of the True Invisible Empire" sounded suspicious at all?! You allowed this plaque to go up, and sit there letting it represent hate and anger for 3 WEEKS before someone noticed it! Freedom of speech is freedom speech you can't take that from anyone! You have the right to peacefully assemble and speak your mind! But by allowing this hate brick on the wall of our community pillar, you are sending the message that their ideology is ok. That this message has a place in our community. When in fact it should not! They should have never been allowed to make this donation! Give them their money back, apologize for wasting their time, and take a stand for your community! As one of your final acts as mayor of Wilkes-Barre you should remove this plaque, and let them know that hate has no place here! That this will not be tolerated or accepted! What is even more sickening is the fact that we LITERALLY just signed Juneteenth in as a holiday in the state of PA courtesy thanks to Governor Wolf. This plaques representation is offensive. The only way to drive out hatred is with love, embrace hate with love and peace. You can't expect a pillar that is meant to represent our community and it's unity and the diversity that which it built upon have something that so strongly signifies hate! The KKK for years has only preached about hate, hung and persecuted people of color, burned down churches and homes. For the love of your community remove this plaque and do the right thing!
