When we first posted this petition, it had two goals, the first: to have some places where the kids could ride their bikes in Mosman during Covid restrictions and the second: to gauge the support for a longer term solution for bike tracks in Mosman.
The great news is we were blown away with the community engagement on both issues. So to give you an update, the first objective has been achieved with the kids having a number of places to ride around Mosman including the Rawson Oval precinct. The second goal has also been achieved, with you all showing huge community support for bike tracks in Mosman.
Further, Mosman Council has been very positive in engaging with this issue, particular Councillors Jacqui Willoughby and Roy Bendall. But, there is more to do, which is where we all come in.
Mosman Council is currently reviewing the Reid Park Plan of Management which includes an ‘Off-road Bike Track’ and as part of that process, they are seeking ‘Public Consultation’. So, for all of us who want more Bike Tracks for our kids, please click on the link below and fill in the survey. It is super simple and only has three questions: Name, Address and Comments. In the comments, please write things like:
I support the bike track at Reid Park
I support a public toilet at Reid Park (locked at night)
I would like to see an upgrade of the children’s play equipment / turf in Reid Park
The window to do this closes on 27 November, so please jump on to it asap.
The second thing to do, is forward the survey to your friends, because the more people that support this, the more likely it will be to happen.
Once accepted in the Plan of Management, it will be championed by the incoming councillors following December 4th election and look to add it to 2022-2025 incoming project & funding budget cycle.
The second approach for more bike tracks, is there are discussions being had with National Parks & Wildlife Services to explore a Bike track on their land in the Middle Head / Chowder Bay precinct. We will keep you posted on how these progress.
