Bring Professional Hockey Back to Richmond, VA
This petition had 3,291 supporters
In 1971 the citizens of Richmond, VA began supporting professional minor league hockey. In 2009 due to a bad economy the city lost it's team. During the past 4 years there has been a social media movement to return professional ice hockey to the RVA.
"Bring Hockey Back to Richmond" is a Facebook page that is supported by over 6000 hockey fans, the local media, former Richmond pro players, former owners, and many Richmond based businesses. The biggest hurdle in our efforts to bring hockey back is the Coliseum and the fact that the building is not hockey ready. The building needs new dasher boards, glass, and safety netting. The cost to upgrade these items would be a fraction of what it costs the city to house the Washington Redskins and the presence of another local pro sport would further build the sports tourism trade that Mayor Jones had attempted to build through the Bike race, Redskins training camp, and many other ventures.
